Let's go to the market
For strange and absurd things
To buy a pasteboard coat,
An enchained little chick,
A bonnet made of china
Embroidered fancy shoes'
A bag with a little kitten -
They all will be no good.

And I'll say many thankyous
And I will say "bonjours"
I need you no longer
I will get married soon.

My man will be the funniest
Of all you've ever seen
On the board of a dingle-dangling tram
We're leaving for Brazil.

He will recite Ovidius, Baudelaire, etceteras
And alchoholic audience will
Shout cheerups.

I'll get a sringless guitar
To play a happy tune
Let everybody know
That I'm in no mood.

A stout man delighted
Will praise me with "sehr gut"
And will propose readily
But I'll say " no good".

I'll 'not accept your compliments
I'd rather put an end
To all this upside-down and
Useless engagement.
